Fly Fish Alberta employs and partners with respected, educated, professional guides and hosts. It is our goal to take a personal approach to the water daily. Each of our guides cares a lot about what happens on the water, with your vacation time our priority. We introduce our guides and hosts:

 

fly fish albertaKevin Smith ~ Is co-owner of Fly Fish Alberta & Fortress Lake Retreat with Dave & Amelia Jensen. Kevin works as a financial specialist in oil and gas investments and guides/hosts trips through the summer months.

 

fly fish albertaDave Jensen ~ Began guiding fly fishing in 1997. His resume includes successfully lobbying to have the Ram River designated catch and release; instituting the Streamwatch program to increase enforcement and awareness of Fisheries issues on the Ram and Blackstone Rivers; articles and photos published in international, national, and regional publications; previous career as a Forest Officer/Official with the BC Forest Service & Alberta Forest Service employee; 10+ years as a manager and server at several of Edmonton's busiest restaurants. Dave's been fly fishing since the age of 5, where he cut his teeth catching yellowfin rainbows in BC's TumTum Creek.

Amelia Jensen ~ Has guided since 1999 and enjoys guiding couples, women, and fun natured men. Amelia was the vice president of the Women's Fly Fishing Association of Alberta 2000 - 2003, director & vice president of the Casting For Life women's breast cancer retreat from 1999 - 2005. Amelia's photos have appeared in numerous magazine articles. Amelia enjoys a steady pace on the water, seeking out rising trout and putting you onto them.

Nick Sliwkanich ~ Nick joined Fly Fish Alberta in 2005 and had a great first year. Nick is a graduate of the Outdoor Adventure Tourism course at Lakeland College He brings a fun approach to the water and provides a good deal of knowledge of different tactics and how to convey them for you to use during your visit.

Jim & Lynda McLennan ~ Jim & Lynda became good friends when Amelia & Lynda were directors of the Casting For Life breast cancer retreat through the 1990s, through 2006. Jim & Lynda have had countless articles and photographs published, and Jim hosted the Iron Blue Fly Fishing tv show as well as publishing the books Trout Streams of Alberta, The Blue Ribbon Bow, and ****. Jim has been co-owner of Country Pleasures Orvis Fly Shop in Calgary, the NW Orvis Representative, and is currently field editor for Fly Fisherman Magazine. Jim & Lynda  host trips for us at Fortress Lake and waters in the Red Deer area. They also host trips at the Anchor B Ranch on the Oldman River, and teach fly fishing schools through fly shops in southern Alberta.

Steve Benke ~ Worked 10 years at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise as a waiter in the fine dining restaurant. He now works in Calgary and guides during the summer. Steve is an ardent fly fisher, with over a decade of knowledge in the Golden, BC area, as well as Banff National Park and the Calgary - Red Deer corridor.
