There are dozens of smaller streams and rivers that must be waded to be enjoyed in the Calgary area, as well as west of the city of Red Deer. The waters available are as diverse as your desire and our wade trips are an excellent way to round out your fly fishing vacation to Alberta, Canada. The variety offered in this region is amongst the most available anywhere: pastoral brown trout streams and spring creeks; alpine meadow cutthroat trout streams; larger brown trout rivers; mid sized rainbow trout rivers; canyon cutthroat trout rivers; mountain bull and cutthroat trout streams and rivers, among others.

Cutthroat Streams (NW & SW of Calgary) - foothill and mountain rivers and streams. Cool water in the summer sun. End of June to the middle of October.

Brown Trout Streams (NW of Calgary & west of Red Deer) - Mid April sees the first hatches and things keep going through mid October.

Spring Creeks (NW of Calgary) - Mid April through the end of September offers dry fly action.

Rainbow Trout (Calgary and SW of Calgary) ~ In Calgary (on the Bow River) and within 1 hour drive of Calgary, lie several exceptional walk and wade rainbow trout waters. Good fishing from the end of June through October on the lesser known waters. The Bow fishes well all season from April through November, except mid June during run off. We have two guides working these waters consistently.

Hoppertunistic

Mid August and the hoppers are out. A fine riffle awaits as you drift and twitch. Will that rainbow take?

Charmer

A fine brown fooled early in the year. April and May pre-runoff hatches can produce on a few waters.

With hope...

A fine foothills stream in the evening light. That shaded bank has a sipping trout...

Splish Splash

Up in the high country, a long hike in... for the ardent adventurer.

Late September

A rising trout is holding at the head of the tree, just off the drop off.

Sudden Beauty

Several wade streams open to beautiful scenes such as this cutthroat trout water.

Small Waters

Big Trout. A 23" brown was landed a few strokes later from the tongue of the run.

Shooting Stars

Streamside foliage offers fine photogenic backdrops. Flowers can bloom from April through September on our trout waters.

Flipping Stones

Several small waters have cross over hatches of salmonflies, golden stones, skwala stones... and produce large trout in excess of 22".

Tight to the bank

Which one? Full of structure and alive with risers, a few of ouor streams are tucked away into deep forests.

Spring Creek

A typical spring creek trout revealed itself during a caddis hatch.

Worth the hike

For those seeking the adventure, an hour hike will get you to waters holding 20+" cutthroat trout, and away from most people.

Aglow

A nice, lean brown about to be released after being taken on a pmd.

End of the rainbow

It was a long one. We caught several of similar size that day on the dry. And not another sole to be seen.
