The classic fly fishing set up with a dry fly and dropper usually is about 18 to 30″. It’s at this depth that mid-depth droppers are fished. It’s a very useful depth to fish many circumstances: troughs, riffles, shelves, emerging caddis and mayflies, migratory stoneflies, etc. It’s a great depth to learn and apply on your home water.
